A sustainable house and garden in suburban Melbourne.
Using Permaculture and sustainable design tools, this house is designed to integrate the house and the garden. The core ethic of Urban Farm and House to provide a holistic approach is used in the design.
The design features a centrally located greenhouse to heat the house in winter. The same greenhouse will be heavily planted and naturally shaded to cool the house in summer. It does this through naturally generated drafts and louvre window systems.
Zone 0 and Zone 1 from Permaculture design effectively become interwoven in a symbiosis. The aim is to replicate this interaction between built form and landscape throughout our work, reducing the need for artificial heating and cooling and improving domestic food supply.
