Works have commenced on site for the construction of the strawbale house and outbuildings. Here we have the frame of the outhouse complete with its recycled window. Despite not being built to the latest technological window standards, using recycled windows in conjunction with the high thermal efficiency of strawbale walls is a compromise that enables a satisfactory energy rating while reusing materials that may otherwise end up in landfill. The modest size of the dwelling (150 sq m) will ensure minimal energy consumption as well.
